Colossal new Minecraft mod is the sequel I've always wanted, and it's out today

After playing Minecraft for over 14 years, the base experience doesn't have that much more to offer me anymore. Sure, it still offers more creative freedom than you'll find in any other sandbox game, with new challenges in every update, but it just doesn't bring me that same excitement it once did. However, a huge update for the RealismCraft brings some truly refreshing changes to the core of Minecraft, so much so that it feels like the sequel I always dreamed of.

Let's be honest straight away. RealismCraft might be one of the best Minecraft mods out there, but it's limited to the Bedrock version of the game, meaning that it does require spending Minecoins, an issue that Minecraft Java players don't need to deal with. Fortunately, you can use the mod on all platforms with Bedrock, so you shouldn't have any problems playing RealismCraft's additions to the iconic survival game on any compatible devices.

While the mod is already available on the Minecraft Marketplace, the massive 2.0 overhaul dropped today  - Tuesday, August 26, 2025 - delivering a whole batch of content to enjoy. Bonus: it's a free upgrade if you already own RealismCraft.

Not only does RealismCraft continue to do what it does best, offering a visual overhaul with gorgeous reimagined textures, VFX like god rays, and biome variants of mobs, but the 2.0 update adds new mobs, biomes, gear, blocks, and a fresh layer of progression that alters your typical Minecraft playthrough. You can still go hunt down the Ender Dragon, but you'll have plenty more to find in the sandbox game than ever before. Fortunately, new tools like handsaws and automated miners (they look like little mining roombas) make it a lot easier to get those resources.

Of course, it can't fully replace the entirety of Minecraft, nor will it capture the exact same feeling I had back in when I first explored the blocky world in my youth. However, it's enough to make me excited about Minecraft again for the first time in a long while, and more than ready to dive into this new world.
