It's always worth listening to your fans. Unless they're asking for every NPC to be turned into a watermelon, that is. But for the most part, they have sensible suggestions and it's up to developers to aggregate all the social media noise into constructive feedback that aligns with their plans. Many were surprised that Tom Clancy's The Division 2 did not include a Survival mode at launch. The DLC by the same name for the first game was wildly popular, and it seemed like an easy win for the sequel. Two and a half years after release, however, a similar extraction mode is finally on its way.
Tom Clancy's The Division 2 was severely lacking a Survival-esque mode at launch, but Ubisoft has finally revealed a new iteration. Known as The Division 2: Survivors, development is still in the early stages, but it looks like exactly what players have been praying for.
The Division 2 may be one of the best multiplayer games around, but players always want more. An extraction-based mode is exactly the tonic for those who find the RPG shooter a little stale. We've all been there. When you start to tire of a game's main pull, you need a little refreshment to keep you going. Survivors could be just that.
While we don't know a lot about the new mode, with it being so early in production and all, the concept art shows a snowy version of Washington DC. Maybe keeping warm with gear will play an important role - would you risk building a fire to stay warm, if it gives away your position?
What we do know is that Ubisoft wants fans involved with the development. "Clear communication and community involvement are a focus as we build the new experience, and we will be closely involving you as we move forward on the development journey," says Julian Gerighty, executive producer. It's unclear whether this will take the form of online polls or open beta tests, but Ubisoft says it is listening.
Division 2: Survivors seems a long way off, so you can make do with some of the best survival games in the meantime. This also means you've got plenty of time to upgrade your rig, so picking up one of the best gaming monitors will let you see every snowflake.
