When you think of extraction games, your mind probably goes to shooters like Escape From Tarkov or Hunt: Showdown. Combining the high stakes looting of these projects with RPG game mechanics is a rich vein, though, especially as evidenced by hits like Dark and Darker. Wolcen Studio, the team behind Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem, seems to agree, given that its newly announced game, Gods, Death, and Reapers, looks to follow in Dark and Darker's footsteps, while taking notes from Diablo 4, too.
Gods, Death, and Reapers is an action RPG game that incorporates some elements of the extraction genre. Formerly known as Project Pantheon, the game's visual style is just as attention grabbing as its mix of genres. Though it looks to take aesthetic inspiration from Diablo, Wolcen Studio's latest stands apart for setting its dark fantasy within environments based on world mythology, starting with a focus on Norse myth.
Players will be able to delve into foreboding dungeons alone or in PvE and PvPvE modes that all augment the game's core design. Valuable items are collected between bouts of frantic, hack-and-slash combat, used to upgrade the protagonist and their sanctuary. As an extraction game, Gods, Death, and Reapers is meant to make actually keeping this gear something of a gamble in several of its modes.
Wolcen Studios has been gathering feedback on its work so far through its community, and is continuing this effort with the launch of the new Closed Alpha 3.1 playtest, beginning today.
Gods, Death, and Reapers doesn't have a launch date yet but its current closed alpha playtest is available now. You can wishlist the game or sign up for the playtest on Steam right here.
