If you're a fan of FPS games and haven't played Hell Let Loose, you're missing out. The hardcore World War Two shooter pits two teams of 50 players against one another in tactical combat that makes the likes of Call of Duty look like an arcade game. RTS-inspired resource gathering adds another layer of depth to the multiplayer game, which few of its competitors offer. Developer Expression Games has announced a followup to the hit title, Hell Let Loose: Vietnam, which transports the first game's core mechanics thousands of miles and dozens of years, to the horrifying jungles of the Vietnam War.

Expression Games has already proven it's adept at adding layers of tactical complexity to create a great FPS game, but transplanting a World War 2-era shooter to the Vietnam War is easier said than done. We're not just talking about fighting in different environments here, this is new weapons, new tactics—warfare had completely changed by the time the US dropped into Vietnam in 1965.

But Hell Let Loose: Vietnam understands that. You play across six Vietnam-inspired maps, engaging in combined arms warfare with air, armour, infantry, and support weapons. Fully operational helicopters can help you to redeploy troops or offer fire support, while patrol boats can offer heavy arms fire from the water.

There are also an abundance of tunnels beneath the maps, which North Vietnamese forces can construct. You can only imagine the strategic possibilities of this, from guerrilla raids to secretive flanking maneuvers.

After such a successful first game, fans will jump at the opportunity to enter a new theater of war with the great tactical gunplay of Hell Let Loose. We eagerly await more information, but for now, we can keep rewatching the trailer to glean any tidbits we can.

You can wishlist Hell Let Loose: Vietnam now. It is available on Steam here.
