The Asus Xbox Ally X release date has been confirmed and it's not too far away

The Asus Xbox Ally X release date has just been confirmed, and we only have to wait until October. Both this handheld and the lower-spec Xbox Ally are currently out on the show floor at Gamescom, giving players a chance to try out the first Xbox-backed portable. While we finally have a release date, however, we still do not know how much these handhelds will cost.

We've been following the Xbox Ally X and its non-X counterpart closely since they were revealed during the Xbox Summer Showcase, and we recently had the chance to use one in our Hollow Knight Silksong preview. The latest AMD Ryzen Z2 chips will power the handhelds, so they have plenty of horsepower at their disposal. Whether or not either of these Asus devices can challenge the best gaming handheld picks in our buying guide remains to be seen, but price will be a big factor.

The Asus Xbox Ally release date is Thursday, October 16, 2025. The date was officially confirmed by Asus in its reveal at Gamescom on August 20, 2025.

As for when you can order one, an Xbox Ally pre-order rumor has suggested that pre-orders will go live on August 20, but no such announcement has been made as of yet. It could be that the pricing of the handhelds is yet to be confirmed, and this is delaying the pre-order window from opening.

Speaking of pricing, there are also Xbox Ally X price rumors suggesting that the Xbox Ally X will cost approximately $999 while the Xbox Ally will retail for $699, which is what the original ROG Ally Z1 Extreme cost back in 2023.
