The first free Inzoi DLC is here, whisking us away to its new Island Getaway, Cahaya. The resort location transforms the realistic Sims rival into an experience free of traditional life sims, creating something more akin to Stardew Valley where you'll farm, mine gemstones, fish, and snorkel. You can start a new life there or take a vacation, but the new map is far from the only reason to check in with the life game. Nexon's Inzoi Studio has also given Zois a much-needed emotional makeover, and there are fresh character and build options, along with a ramp-up of some of the simulation aspects.

Inzoi update 0.3.0 comes separately from the Island Getaway pack, though you can grab the new DLC for free on Steam. The new patch "brings deeper emotions and behaviors to Zois, a more vibrant city atmosphere, and richer interactions." While the life game is one of the best games like The Sims to look at, its visuals haven't been matched by a similar level of personality, with animations that fall well short of the genre's long-time favorite.

That's hopefully all changed now, with an overhaul to animations, new icons, and status indicators to better showcase how your Zois are feeling. Collaborative actions such as eating meals or playing games together have been introduced, and thought bubbles will pop up during interactions, Sims-style, to reflect your Zois' inner thoughts. Conversations will also branch into a wider range of possible paths, and romantic relationships have been made "more nuanced and emotionally dynamic."

Speaking of relationships, there are new one-sided crushes, confessions, obsessions, and divorces, and reactions to each can vary depending on the involved Zois' traits, preferences, and current status. The simulation elements have been ramped up elsewhere, too; you can prepare food for a group or event, with nine new recipes added to the list, store meals in the fridge for later, and play chess. Objects will get dirty or break as you continue to use them, requiring cleaning or repair.

Failing to pay your utility bills will now result in collector visits and a gradual shutoff of your water and power. When all your Sims doze off at once, time will zoom forward at 30x speed. Alternatively, you can hold the Left Alt key to pull the game speed down to 0.3x if you want to make some quick adjustments. Interactions you choose will be prioritized over Zois' own selections, which means they won't ignore your requests even if that burger looks tasty.

Rounding out update 0.3.0 are 56 new character customization items, and 104 building options. Swimming pools and elevators are the big introductions, along with a range of new roof designs. Certain objects will be initially locked behind completing parts of the Collection Log. When building, the wall cutaways and camera position has been improved, and you should run into fewer height-alignment issues. You can take temporary trips to visit other locations, and there are even new Inzoi cheats.

Then we have the Cahaya DLC. A lot of the core features have been incorporated into update 0.3.0 - swimming, snorkeling, fishing, farming, natural disasters, mining, jewel crafting, running a market stall, item resales, loans, insurance, budget management, and 14 new vehicles. Once you've installed the pack, however, you'll be able to travel to this gorgeous getaway of coral reefs, sunny pools, and wildlife, and make use of a further 49 character items, 189 building pieces, and four property presets.

As mentioned, you won't have access to traditional jobs here; in the vein of games like Stardew Valley, you'll have to rely on the likes of farming, fishing, and mining to make a living. You'll also be able to rent boats to cruise around between the islands, discover legendary collectables among the coral reefs, and make wishes or pet cats at the Cahaya temple. Visitors can stay at one of three resort destinations, but be wary - the town also faces bouts of intense heavy rain and lightning storms during which car use is forbidden.

Inzoi update 0.3.0 and the Island Getaway DLC are out now. You'll need to claim and install the free Island Getaway pack on Steam to access Cahaya. The base game is also 20% off through Tuesday September 2, so you'll pay $31.99 / £27.99. Find it here if you're ready for a fresh vacation.
