Helldivers 2's Halo collab arrives sooner than you think, and it looks perfect

When we talk about games taking the world by storm, my mind always thinks back to Animal Crossing: New Horizons in the pandemic, or Baldur's Gate 3 reaching a worldwide audience that nobody, not even Larian, could have imagined. While a slightly smaller scale, Helldivers 2 had a similar impact when it launched, in my friendship group at least. We squadded up and got boots on the ground to defeat waves of bug-like Terminids in the Starship Troopers pastiche. But the game is going even bigger this month, as it launches on Xbox and announces a Halo ODST crossover that fans will be ravenous for.

When Helldivers 2 released, it felt like the whole world was on the frontlines, fighting to defend Super Earth from bugs and bots alike. It's one of my favorite multiplayer games of recent memory, and I'm ready to jump back in with this new update.

This Halo ODST crossover marks Helldivers 2's first legendary warbond, which cost 1,500 Super Credits each, 50% more than the usual amount. However, unlike battle passes in other live-service games, Helldivers 2's warbonds stick around forever, meaning you're not filled with FOMO trying to unlock everything before a new season starts.

It's worth noting that, in the Helldivers universe, ODST stands for Obedient Democracy Support Troopers, rather than the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers they are in the iconic Xbox franchise. Although, truth be told, both acronyms fit well.

The ODST legendary warbond comprises of four familiar weapons and two sets of armor. Halo players will recognise the MC6/SOCOM pistol, M7S SMG, M90A Shotgun, and of course the MA5C Assault Rifle, which are all available by progressing this pass.

The warbond also includes two armor variants to outfit your Obedient Democracy Support Troopers in. These include iconic Halo helmets, capes with iconic logos, and armor pieces inspired by the Xbox series. A khaki color variant for all vehicles practically turns your Fast Recon Vehicle (FRV) into a Warthog, too.

Helldivers 2 launches on Xbox on Tuesday, August 26 with full crossplay. The Helldivers 2 x Halo: ODST Legendary Warbond also launches on Tuesday, August 26.
