Last spring, Diane Keaton and Hudson Grace co-founder Monelle Totah gathered in Keaton’s kitchen to muse over options for their latest collection. The pair had met years earlier while Keaton was shopping in the Los Angeles outpost of Totah's homewares boutique and—thanks to their instant camaraderie and Keaton’s natural eye for design—a collaboration was inevitable.
The first Diane Keaton + Hudson Grace collection hit shelves last summer, complete with a variety of stoneware, linens, and serving dishes. But on this day, the duo brewed up ideas for the next offering, to be released Nov. 3, including an item inspired by Keaton's very own kitchen collection.
The Buzz Around Butter
The curated collection should come as no surprise, given the rising popularity of all things butter. In 2019, New York's International Museum of Dinnerware Design held a juried exhibition titled Butter that included several butter dishes along with butter-themed sculpture and accoutrement by contemporary artists, plus vintage and historical pieces.
In 2021, the pop band BTS broke the record for the largest single day of streams on Spotify with the release of their song Butter; and who could forget 2022’s butter board craze?
Of course, we’d be remiss not to mention that just last month, Better Homes & Gardens held a Best in Butter showdown, where we sampled 17 brands to find the tastiest spread. Several contenders were of the stick variety—which of course put butter dishes top of mind!

The Dish on Keaton's Collection
“Visiting Diane’s home is always an incredible and inspiring experience, and my most recent visit was no different,” says Totah, who looks to objects Diane already owns for inspiration for the collection. This time, she couldn’t help but notice that Keaton had amassed several examples of one surprisingly humble kitchen accessory: “Searching for that perfect piece to add to the DKHG line, I stumbled upon her collection of butter dishes! Each one is more unique than the next,” says Totah, who was instantly smitten.
All of this is to say that butter is hot, and for Keaton and Totah, the matter was settled. They added an earthenware butter dish to the upcoming fall collection at Hudson Grace. Like the striped tableware in the first Diane Keaton + Hudson Grace line, it will be crafted in Portugal and feature Keaton’s signature painterly black-and-white striped pattern.
“After all, who wouldn’t want a chic butter dish on their table? Especially a DK one,” says Totah. We couldn’t agree more.
