What are all of Amon's skills and abilities in Borderlands 4? Swords, fists, hammers, shields. You name anything in the melee weapon department, and Amon probably has it in his arsenal. Whether he's hoisting his shield to protect his allies or slinging axes at anyone unfortunate enough to get in his way, Amon only knows one direction: forward.

Of all the Borderlands 4 characters, Amon is arguably the hardest to master in the multiplayer game. Alongside his standard action skills, Amon's Vault Hunter trait grants him a secondary layer of abilities, Forgeskills, that provide bonus utility that'll take some extra time to get to grips with. Below you'll find all you need to know about Amon in Borderlands 4, including a rundown of his action skills, skill tree, capstones, and more.

The best Borderlands 4 Amon build will ultimately depend on your team's composition. His Firewall Forgeskill, for example, boosts his teammate's damage while also keeping them safe. This isn't ideal for solo play, but if the 'invincible god' playstyle speaks to you, there's still plenty of fun to be had with the Scourge action skill it builds on.

Going down the Onslaughter path turns Amon into more of a classic berserker, amping his shield regen, bonus incendiary damage with guns, and movement speed—call him Chappell Roan the way he's hot to go. Crucible, meanwhile, has Amon cosplay a Throwing Axeman from Age of Empires 2, and, Frank-ly, it looks to be the most entertaining way to play him. Featuring lots of elemental explosions and plenty of interplay with grenades, we're expecting to invest heavily into the boom.

Borderlands 4 Amon action skills

It's worth pointing out that only one action skill can be equipped at a time, and you won't benefit from skill points invested into other action skill trees. Early on, then, you'll want to pick your favorite skill path and stick to it. Amon does gain a bonus Forgeskill for each, so keep that in mind before you rule out any of his action skills.

Here's a breakdown of Amon's three action skills, plus their Forgeskill effects:

  • Onslaughter: Amon overloads his Forgefist, granting him constant shield regeneration, bonus incendiary damage with guns, and bolstered movement speed. Pressing the skill or meleeing activates Amon's Rocket Punch, dealing incendiary melee damage in a small cone. It also staggers enemies—badasses only have a chance to be staggered, while bosses can't be staggered.
    • Molten Slam (Forgeskill): Press and hold the action skill button to slam Amon's Forgehammer into the ground, dealing AoE incendiary melee damage.
  • Scourge: Amon equips his Forgeshield, turning all frontal damage into Vengeance. When the Vengeance meter is filled, Forgeshield instead provides damage reduction. Vengeance diminishes quickly if damage hasn't recently been absorbed. Pressing the action skill again launches a Forgewave, passing through enemies and dealing cryo ordnance damage. Vengeance is consumed to increase its damage.
    • Firewall (Forgeskill): Press and hold the action skill button to drop a Firewall that absorbs enemy projectiles. Grants friendly projectiles that pass through it bonus damage and speed. Damage absorbed by the shield is converted to Vengeance while Scourge is active. Enemies near the Firewall take incendiary status effect damage over time.
  • Crucible: Charge Skill (3) - Amon pulls out his throwable Forgeaxes, which can be picked up off the ground to refund cooldown. Amon can throw either a flame or frost axe, dealing incendiary melee and cryo melee damage, respectively. Enemies damaged by the axes are primed for a duration and detonate when they die or are damaged by a Forgeskill, damaging nearby enemies.
    • Double-Edge (Forgeskill): Press and hold the action skill button to throw a twinned Forgeaxe, dealing cryo melee damage to those hit on the way out and incendiary melee damage to those it passes through on the way back.

Borderlands 4 Amon skill tree

Each of Amon's action skills has its own skill tree, providing an array of upgrades for the beardy Vault Hunter. After investing 15 points into a tree, three more branches open up to you. Each branch ends with a powerful capstone, completely transforming what Amon's action skill does.

You'll also find augments littered throughout the skill tree, enhancing your action skills with a secondary bonus. Only one augment and one capstone can be active at once.

Borderlands 4 best Amon build: Calamity skill tree

Calamity (Onslaughter)

Amon's Calamity tree is much more berserker-focused, bringing him boosts to movement speed, shielding, and melee damage. Certain upgrades even change his damage type from incendiary to shock, helping him exploit more weaknesses.

  • Branch 1 capstone - Hoarcleave: Molten Slam becomes Hoarcleave. Holding the action skill swings a massive Forgeaxe, launching a wave of cryo melee damage that freezes enemies it passes through. Enemies killed by it detonate, dealing cryo damage.
  • Branch 2 capstone - Molten Roil: Molten Slam stores damage and gains increased radius. Erupts pyres under up to three enemies after a delay. Pyres deal bonus incendiary melee damage based on stored damage which is then distributed between the remaining targets.
  • Branch 3 capstone - Stormcutter: Molten Slam becomes Stormcutter. Holding the action skill swings a massive Forgesword, launching a wave of shock melee damage. Restores action skill cooldown, action skill duration, and ordnance cooldown for each enemy hit.

Borderlands 4 best Amon build: Vengeance skill tree

Vengeance (Scourge)

Amon's Vengeance tree centers around amping his cryo application and damage, the efficacy of his gunplay, and keeping his health topped up.

  • Branch 1 capstone - Ring of Frostfire: Firewall becomes a ring that deals incendiary status effect damage to enemies trapped inside and cryo damage to enemies who attempt to enter or leave it. Firewall deals even more damage and increased speed to friendly projectiles that pass through it.
  • Branch 2 capstone - Glacial Rapture: Firewall becomes Glacial Rapture. Holding the action skill swings Forgewhips that deal cryo ordnance damage over two hits to nearby enemies before slamming the ground and creating a cryonic fissure that deals further cryo ordnance damage. The fissure also leaves cryo hazards for a duration.
  • Branch 3 capstone - Wrathfall: Firewall becomes Wrathfall. Holding the action skill calls down a huge Forgesword upon a target, dealing shock ordnance damage to enemies in the area. Wrathfall always crits.

Borderlands 4 best Amon build: Cybernetics skill tree

Cybernetics (Crucible)

Cybernetics is all about big crits and launching many, many axes (and anything else lob-able) at Amon's foes. You can even spawn a Forgedrone that'll fire even more axes at enemies for you.

  • Branch 1 capstone - Snowmaul: Double-Edge becomes Snowmaul. Holding the action skill throws a twinned Forgehammer that ricochets between nearby enemies up to three times, dealing cryo melee damage on impact. If there aren't any ricochet targets, Snowmaul deals damage to the target an additional time before ending. Snowmaul ricochets an extra time for each detonation caused.
  • Branch 2 capstone - Storm Surge: Double-Edge becomes Storm Surge. Holding the action skill throws a twinned Forgeblade that deals shock melee damage on impact and creates a Forgestorm that deals shock status effect damage over time.
  • Branch 3 capstone - Conflangarang: Double-Edge now deals incendiary melee damage in both directions, has an increased radius, and leaves a flaming trail that deals incendiary damage over time if thrown close to the ground. Conflangarang restores Forgeskill cooldown if it causes a detonation or damages an enemy.
