I absolutely love Monster Hunter Wilds, which makes it all the more painful to see it run into so many problems. The latest entry in the Capcom series has been plagued with performance issues on PC since it launched, and that combined with a relatively light endgame has left players dissatisfied. New Monster Hunter Wilds update 1.021 was supposed to be the first big step towards fixing these concerns, moving several upgrades forward in an attempt to keep people busy until Title Update 3, but it's already run into a serious crash problem.

Monster Hunter Wilds patch 1.021 rolls out a wide range of changes across almost all of the Monster Hunter Wilds weapons, with Lance, Insect Glaive, and the two Bowguns getting the most extensive alterations. It also introduces several new features to extend the lifespan of one of the best action games of this year while we avidly await news of its next major free DLC. Nine-star tempered monsters will now appear once you hit HR 100, and these hunts can award a new 'Glowing Stone' that will turn into a randomly rolled talisman, introducing something fresh to grind for.

Unfortunately, the update has also caused a new problem. "We have confirmed that the game may crash when you faint and return to camp during fast travel or a quest under certain conditions," the Monster Hunter Status account confirms via social media. It says it is currently working on a fix, and notes, "Once the update is available, online sessions will be discontinued, and you will need to update to the latest version to continue playing online."

The account says the issue has been reported "on all platforms," but it will particularly sting for PC players. The Monster Hunter Wilds Steam reviews still sit at just 50% positive, with those delivered over the past 30 days at an even more damning 23%. Hopefully Capcom is able to rectify the problem quickly and let players get back into the action safely.

Capcom Monster Hunter Wilds post: "We are aware of the following issue being reported in Monster Hunter Wilds on all platforms and are currently working on a fix. Once the fix is complete, we plan to release a patch

Looking towards the future, game director Yuya Tokuda says in a letter to the community that the team is "aware that some players may be concerned about the potential strain on their PCs." However, he continues, "As making changes to CPU processing could affect the game's overall performance, we plan to proceed with caution." Initial load reduction for CPUs is planned to arrive in Title Update 4, but will be followed by "a second stage of further mitigation measures" along with improvements for GPU usage.
