What does the Peak balloon do? There are many ways to meet an untimely end in Peak, from the lava pits to the poisonous plants; danger lurks around every corner as you make your way to the summit. The most common run-ending disaster is perhaps the most simple, though, and that's falling. Well, rather, it's what happens at the end of a fall.

There have been plenty of updates for Peak as it continues its meteoric rise to the top of all things co-op climbing whimsy. The latest update added a desert biome with pit monsters, intense sunshine, and something called the Scout Cannon. It also saw a Balloon added into the mix, which is a bit of a head-scratcher for all involved. Here's how it works.

Peak balloon: a blue inflated balloon flating above a beach.

How does the Peak balloon work?

The Peak balloon looks exactly as you would imagine - it's a balloon. You can find it in many of the suitcases dotted around the map, and using it sees your character wear it like the world's lightest belt. The balloon floats above your head, letting others know where you are, like a child lost in a mall, but it also has a second, decidedly more useful function.

The Peak balloon slows your descent, meaning that you won't fall as fast when you have the balloon equipped. It isn't by much, and you will still take fall damage, but this lightening of the load can sometimes mean the difference between life and your friends scraping you off the side of a mountain.

Now that you know how the Peak balloon works, you can attempt a few jumps that err on the side of daring, at least until it pops. If things don't go exactly to your liking, we have a guide on how to revive in Peak here, and a guide on the Peak Scoutmaster, which is very important, lest you be thrown from the mountain by a creepy skeleton.
