Destiny 2 new season release date - The Edge of Fate details

When is the next Destiny 2 season? Our band of Guardians has been through a lot recently; we finally faced off against the Witness and, eventually, took it down for good. Now The Year of Prophecy is here alongside new expansion, The Edge of Fate.

The next Destiny 2 season release date is December 2, 2025. Rather than a season, we're getting a full expansion titled 'Renegades,' which is Star Wars-themed.

Ahead of Renegades, we are getting one major content update for The Edge of Fate, Ash & Iron, which is due to drop on September 9.

Bungie announced The Year of Prophecy roadmap and new structure for this year's content, moving away from episodes and instead releasing four content updates a year, including two paid expansions and two major updates. The updates include new activities, missions, gear, and rewards, with all players able to take part in seasonal activities.

Destiny 2 The Edge of Fate story

In The Edge of Fate, you can explore the new destination, Kepler, which introduces the next saga, the Fate Saga. The Nine play a key role in this saga, expanding on their story in both of this year's expansions. The main story takes place on Kepler, a challenging area covered in puzzles, as it aims to encourage exploration to unearth secrets, alongside new enemies, weapons, gear, and abilities.

Kepler is also home to a lot of dark matter, powering the abilities you'll discover, such as Matterspark, which allows you to change forms to navigate the area, such as squeezing through tight gaps or leaping between hard to reach spaces.

Destiny 2 Reclamation activities

Destiny 2's current seasonal activities adds the Portal, a hub for you to choose an activity and earn daily and weekly rewards. You can choose between Solo Ops for quick ten-minute adventures, or Fireteam Ops, Pinnacle Ops, and Crucible Ops for cooperative content and longer missions. You can also tailor your activities using modifiers, with over 50 new modifiers available to customize each challenge.

Destiny 2 Armor 3.0 and Tiering System

Armor and gear systems evolved with The Edge of Fate, with new stats added to gear such as increased weapon damage and stronger effects, making set bonuses more effective, too. The tier system also introduced five weapon and armor tiers, offering better stats and perks, and more bonus mechanics, but to earn the higher tiers, you need to take on challenging activities.
