Professional Organizers Agree: These Are the 10 Storage Solutions You Should Have in Your Home at All Times

When each item is in its “right” spot or “home,” I can look around my house and feel pretty satisfied with the view. My kitchen countertops look bigger, the main living space appears cleaner, the closets seem surprisingly neat, and I’m able to convince myself that I’m more organized than I actually am. But I recently chatted with a few professional organizers about the must-have storage solutions every home should have at all times, and as it turns out, this self-proclaimed organization queen still has a lot to learn.

I spoke to Ashley La Fond of professional organizing company Of Space & Mind, and Marissa Hagmeyer, the co-founder and COO of NEAT Method, about the top 10 things every organized home should have at all times. Their genius answers included a mix of clever organization hacks I’d never considered before—like how to store toys and games—and intentional ways to cash in on unused vertical space.

Here’s one you’ve never thought of before (because I know I sure hadn’t): board game organization These are surprisingly frustrating to store, even if you don’t have children ransacking the boxes all the time. These storage containers have see-through lids, snap securely closed, and stack neatly on top of one another. 

“The boxes that games come in are often super bulky and don’t often hold up over time,” La Fond explains. “We love these transparent holders, they keep pieces together, stack nicely, and minimize the space that games take up.”

After all, bicycles take up a lot of storage space, and most of us have at least one—if not more. And while most vertical bike racks don’t support e-bikes, due to the varying wheel sizes and heavy weights, this one is able to accommodate mountain and eMTB bikes of up to 77 pounds with wheel sizes from 20 inches to 29 inches and tires 2.1 inches to 2.8 inches wide.
