Nexon has mostly made a name for itself creating and publishing massive mobile games. In recent years though, it's been upping its PC and console presence with big multiplayer games like looter shooter The First Descendant and Embark Studios' FPS The Finals. The release of The First Berserker Khazan earlier this year saw it publish a visually stunning soulslike for the first time. Now it's giving a "blockbuster" action game a go. The company has just unveiled Woochi the Wayfarer with a gorgeous cinematic trailer, and it'll transport players to Korea during the time of the Joseon dynasty.

We're seeing more and more massive studios in Asia branch out to make triple-A, visually stunning action games and RPGs entrenched in their countries' respective cultures, histories, and mythologies. Black Myth Wukong's high profile takeover of the Steam charts set the tone. Wuchang Fallen Feathers just delivered a soulslike adventure set in China's Ming dynasty. The upcoming Phantom Blade Zero will give a dark, wuxia-punk twist on the same setting. Bringing Joseon-era Korea into the fold is Woochi the Wayfarer. It's based on the tale of main character Jeon Woochi - a famous name in Korean folklore - who is a dosa, a mysterious mage "who uses his powers to fight injustice and trick the corrupt."

Woochi the Wayfarer is described as a single-player, "blockbuster"  action-adventure game and will have a rather prestigious composer for its soundtrack. The music has been created by Jung Jae-il, the genius behind the score of Netflix hit Squid Game and the Oscar-winning film Parasite. Nexon says Lore Vault Studio is the development team behind it.

While today's reveal doesn't feature any gameplay, it does introduce us to Jeon Woochi and Myoan, a shaman with some serious anger issues… After performing rituals, Myoan transforms into a fierce, rapid beast with reptilian eyes and feathers on their face. I'm already looking forward to that boss fight.

Nexon says that Woochi the Wayfarer is coming to Steam for PC players, as well as PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. However, it's not yet shared a release window. It'll be nice to see more of this one at a future showcase or event, but I'm not expecting that moment to come anytime soon.
