The AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D has reportedly been retired, potentially bringing socket AM4 X3D gaming PCs to an end. This eight-core gaming CPU, with its powerful 3D V-cache technology, was only released in January 2024, but reports now suggest it has been discontinued, with retailer stock quickly diminishing.

The AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D was one of the few socket AM4 X3D gaming CPUs still available since 5800X3D stock dried up last year. While AMD hasn't formally announced the move, losing the 5700X3D would leave those with older gaming PCs no option but to either stick with their existing CPUs or upgrade to newer AM5 chips, such as the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which is the top recommendation in our best gaming CPU guide.

This news comes via Dutch website Tweakers, which reports that the 5700X3D is "end of life" and will soon completely disappear from sale once existing stock clears. Several online retailers have reportedly confirmed the news to Tweakers, suggesting that the 5700X3D is no longer available for order. It also suggests that AMD has refused to comment on the 5700X3D's current status.

Like other X3D chips, the increased L3 cache on the 5700X3D gave it a significant gaming performance boost, making it a popular choice for gamers who still used an AM4 motherboard in their machines. Instead, if you want to upgrade to an X3D CPU in future, you may well need to buy a new AM5 motherboard.

That will not only require a new motherboard and processor, but also new memory, as AM5 doesn't support DDR4. If you're thinking of making this move, then have a read of our guide to buying the best gaming RAM, which includes recommendations for new AMD rigs.
