AMD has quietly unveiled a new budget graphics card for gamers. The AMD Radeon RX 7400 is unlikely to be a hype-inducing entry into the company's lineup, however. It features a last-gen RDNA 3 GPU with meager specs that make it marginally less powerful than the company's previously lowest-spec entry of that generation, the AMD Radeon RX 7600.

The most recent entries by AMD into the GPU market have genuinely impressed us, with the AMD Radeon RX 9070, RX 9070 XT, and RX 9060 XT all earning places in our best graphics card guide. Its RDNA 3 cards were less impactful, however, due to their poor performance compared to Nvidia counterparts, and we're not expecting this card to change that story, either.

The AMD Radeon RX 7400 release date arrived to no fanfare, with AMD simply adding the card's details to its website, while a listing for a new Dell PC that includes the card also appeared on that company's site.

As to the AMD Radeon RX 7400 specs, the new GPU has 28 RDNA 3 compute units, 1,792 stream processors, 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM, and a GPU power of up to 43W, along with a total board power rating of just 55W. The latter means this card won't need any extra power cables, with it able to draw all the power it needs from its PCI-E motherboard connection. There's a good chance it could even be passively cooled too.

Also listed are the card's ROP count, texture unit count, and total transistor count, along with the memory size, type, and speed, all of which are as we'd expect for a GPU of this grade and are listed in the table below. Despite this being such a modest new GPU, it's notable that the transistor count is still 13.3 billion - modern chip production really is a marvel.

AMD Radeon RX 7400 specs

The AMD Radeon RX 7400 specs include 8GB of VRAM, 28 compute units, and 1,792 stream processors.

AMD Radeon RX 7400 specs
Architecture AMD RDNA 3 (Navi 33)
Compute units 28
Stream processors 1,792
GPU power 43W
ROPs 64
Texture units 112
Transitor count 13.3 billion
Memory 8GB GDDR6
Memory bus 128-bit
Memory speed Up to 10.8 Gbps
Minimum PSU recommendation 450W
Total board power (TBP) 55W

AMD hasn't released any further information about the availability of the RX 7400, such as its price or whether it'll even be available for the general public to buy. It's quite possible that it will only be available preinstalled in PCs built by the likes of Dell.

This isn't the first time that a new RDNA 3 graphics card has been hinted at following the launch of the company's newer generation RDNA 4 GPUs. A few months ago, a new AMD RNDA 3 GPU rumor suggested that a so-called AMD Radeon RX 7300, with even less impressive specs than the RX 7400 shown here, could have been in development.

That isn't a card that we've heard about since, but AMD has produced OEM-only cards for manufacturers in the past, which could explain both that rumor, and this new card.

We'll be waiting to see if AMD releases any further information about this unusual card. If AMD does release it to the public, it would have to price it pretty low. Its current entry-level card on public sale, the AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT 8GB, is priced at just $299 while also offering full AMD FSR 4 support, including improved AI frame gen.
