Starfield might have a fairly lacklustre reputation, but I think this is unfair and the result of people hyping it up for so many years and Bethesda's earlier RPGs (like Skyrim and Fallout 4) leaving some big shoes to fill, but if you ask me, Starfield is nothing short of incredible. With a beautiful universe and a huge mystery driving its main narrative, Starfield is a great role-playing game to spend time in, and you can now grab the game and its first expansion, Shattered Space, at its lowest price ever - but only for a short time.

After exploring traditional Western fantasy worlds and post-apocalyptic wastelands for years in Elder Scrolls and Fallout games, Bethesda Game Studios' Starfield takes you into a huge galaxy filled with planets to explore in what I consider to be the best RPG of 2023. It's a fresh experience for fans of Bethesda's suite of role-playing games, considering there aren't too many high-budget space-faring RPGs like it.

Like many of the best FPS games, Starfield excels at action, giving you plenty of futuristic armaments to take on enemies you'll encounter across the galaxy. My personal favorite is the impressive Magshot, which offers an early-game powerhouse of a pistol, one that will have your foes begging for mercy.

However, like Elder Scrolls and Fallout before it, this space game offers an equally tantalizing narrative to back up its bombastic action. Working with the crew at Constellation, a group of explorers attempting to uncover the mystery of the universe, your player character will explore the Settled Systems in an attempt to uncover life's origins and purpose. Other factions, including the religious fanatics of House Va'ruun, who worship the Great Serpent, are the focus of the Shattered Space expansion.

While Starfield offers a brilliant plot, the side-quests are equally engaging. One simple note may take you on an adventure looking for a special spaceship in the Lair of the Mantis, while other bizarre ones will see you dressing up as a space monster and scaring away tourists. There's no shortage of small excursions, and you'll constantly be saying, "Maybe I'll see where that quest goes," often.

Plenty of new PC games have been released since Starfield's debut, but I still jump back in to experience the exhilarating universe Bethesda Game Studios has crafted, and as Nat Smith's Starfield review suggests, "Starfield is a true behemoth of an RPG." Who could've thought that the endless, oxygen-less void of space could be so inviting?

If you're keen to dive into Starfield, you can grab it for just $37.09 / £31.79 on Fanatical, its lowest price since launch. Alternatively, you could also grab the Premium Edition, which includes the Constellation Skin Pack and the Shattered Space expansion for just $57.99 / £49.87 - also its cheapest price yet.

After grabbing this great RPG at a low price, make sure to check out our list of the best Starfield mods, so you can switch up your next playthrough. I have no doubt you'll be looking for the best games like Starfield shortly after, considering how amazing Bethesda's latest RPG is.
