Grab haunting open-world RPG Hell is Us at 23% off before launch

I can't wait to get my hands on Hell is Us, because from what I've seen and heard from those on the team who've played it, Rogue Factor's upcoming open-world action RPG looks like it's going to offer a hauntingly atmospheric experience set in a brutal sci-fi world that's just begging to be explored. If you pre-order it from Fanatical, you'll get a 23% discount before launch.

Hell is Us is a mashup of genres, blending third-person soulslike combat with elements from the best action-adventure games, tricky exploration, puzzles, and a giant sci-fi open world to explore. It doesn't handhold either, rewarding curiosity and attention to detail. Although not as challenging as some of the best soulslike games, you'll have to talk to the locals, listen to what they have to say, and follow clues to nudge you in the right direction.

Story-wise, you step into the boots of Remi, who smuggles himself back into his homeland to find it fractured by civil war and crawling with entities known as Hollow Walkers. It's these manifestations of calamity that intrigue me the most. Much as I might care about old Remi, I'm a lot more interested in finding out who these things are and where they came from. They're scary white-skinned creatures with massive cavities in their faces and chests, for goodness' sake!

Combat features soulslike elements with dodging, blocking, and parrying that require you to learn enemy attack patterns to succeed. In our Hell is Us preview, Ken says, "with melee combat much more at the focus here, it places itself neatly at a crossroads between Dark Souls, Death Stranding, and Remnant 2." Now, that's a cocktail I want on a Friday night.

Ken goes on to say, "Your stamina regenerates automatically, but your health does not. Your maximum stamina, however, is capped by your current health level, and running out of stamina will leave you in an exhausted state where you deal less damage and take more." This adds another level of difficulty while also being a clever way to inject a bit of realism into this otherwise fantastical game.

Luckily, there are three difficulty presets, so you can keep it low with Lenient (like I would), crank it up a notch to Balanced (a.k.a. normal mode), or go whole hog and set it to Merciless. You'll have a little drone pal called KAPI to assist, providing support and special abilities too.

If Hell is Us sounds like something you'd like to sink your teeth into, you can pre-order the standard version for $38.49 / £34.64 and the deluxe edition for $53.89 / £46.19. We're assuming this discount will be available until the game's release on Thursday, September 4, 2025, but best scoot on over to Fanatical now to avoid disappointment, as nothing in life is guaranteed.
