Chaotic new co-op roguelite Guntouchables is free to keep, if you're quick

Deep Rock Galactic is getting on a bit now, but it's still a brilliant co-op game that's guaranteed to put a smile on your face. It was a transformational project for developer Ghost Ship Games too - its success has seen it evolve into a publisher, as well as a creator. The latest game to launch under its publishing label is Guntouchables, a quirky and chaotic co-op roguelite with some Vampire Survivors-style top-down combat. Despite having just gone live on Steam, Ghost Ship is doing something pretty radical - it's giving Guntouchables away for free, but only for a very limited amount of time.

No matter your preferences or favorite genres, it's hard to pass up free Steam games when they come along. Sure, your library is probably groaning with games you haven't played yet, but they can wait - a freebie can't be ignored, especially one you can play with your pals. Guntouchables is a co-op shooter that sees a team of hotdog-esque apocalypse survivors attempt to slay as many mutant monsters as they can.

As is the case in so many of the best roguelikes, each journey out into the wastelands will feature increasingly powerful enemies and ever shrinking odds of survival. At the end of each round, you'll be forced to choose a mutation - something that will make your foes stronger and more difficult to deal with. As a tradeoff, your team will also be blessed with a buff or additional benefit, so it's not all bad.

However, these buffs alone might not see you through the higher rounds. So, you'll need to upgrade your character over time with new perks and master the art of buildcrafting. As the name of the game suggests, your guns are also a huge factor in whether or not you become mutant food. There's a wide range of weapons at your disposal, but you can enhance them with loads of mods to give yourself more firepower. Synergize those mods with the right perks, and you're going to become incredibly lethal.

While Guntouchables is a modestly priced bullet fest at just $4.99 / £4.49, Ghost Ship and developer Game Swing are being even more generous for today's launch. From now until 12am PDT / 3am EDT / 8am BST on Friday, August 8, Guntouchables will be free to keep on Steam. That's a window of just 24 hours, so you've got to be rapid.
