Players are getting excited for a new Battlefield game again. After the misstep that was Battlefield 2042, fans of the FPS series are crossing their fingers that EA can return to form with the new entry. The trailers look good, the gunplay looks meaty, and the environments look like that perfect blend of gritty and tactically challenging. Previews have labelled Battlefield 6 as safe but competent. Having not played it, the response reminds me of The Force Awakens, for any Star Wars fans in the room - it's playing it safe, but doing safe well, in order to get fans back on board after a less-than-stellar previous outing.

EA's Battlefield Studios is keen to get fans back on board, and is therefore making it clear that it's listening to feedback. This morning, it released the latest Battlefield 6 community update, which detailed changes to the game ahead of the open beta, as well as plans for further adjustments ahead of the Battlefield 6 release date.

If Battlefield 6 wants to become one of the best multiplayer games, then it needs the community on board. Therefore, it is allowing players to choose between closed and open weapon modes in the open beta, starting with a Closed Weapon Conquest playlist. Closed weapons modes lock certain guns to certain classes like the Battlefield games of yore, and it's something that players have long opined for.

Using player data from Battlefield Labs, the developer has also changed the flow of movement on some maps, as well as improving cover, the layout of objectives, and repositioning turrets. Weapons have also been tweaked, adjusting the time-to-kill and balancing damage across the board. There are new weapon customization options and clearer UI when it comes to picking your gear. The addition of signature weapons also grants players a buff if they match a weapon to the class that wields it most effectively.

In addition to these changes, EA has made its intentions clear about the future of Battlefield 6. Before the full release, it wants to drastically change the assault class, as well as tweaking engineer, support, and recon skills. The biggest change here is to the adrenaline injector, which now dulls the effects of flash and stun effects while improving movement speed, but assault players can also capture objectives quicker and have access to the deploy beacon (FKA spawn beacon) instead of Recon. They can now also carry ladders to climb to previously unreachable areas.

You can check out the full community update here for more in-depth descriptions of every change, planned or implemented.

If you can't wait until Thursday to get your hands on the open beta, why not read and re-read our Battlefield 6 preview in the time you've got? I reckon you could read it at least a dozen times before Thursday. And don't forget, you can preload the Battlefield 6 beta here.
