IKEA and Best Buy Are Teaming Up to Make the Most Annoying Part of Planning a Big Home Upgrade So Much Easier

IKEA and Best Buy just partnered to create a cross-brand one-stop shop for customers looking to purchase new appliances for their kitchens and laundry rooms. The goal of the partnership is to help customers make informed decisions about what home products and appliances will benefit their everyday lives.

“This partnership between IKEA and Best Buy is about making great design and functionality more accessible for the many,” said Rob Olson, the chief operations officer for IKEA U.S., in an IKEA press release.

Launching this fall, 10 Best Buy locations will feature in-store planning centers where shoppers can find design inspiration and purchase Best Buy appliances that pair well with IKEA home furnishings.

What the Planning Centers Include

The in-store planning centers will feature 1,000-square-foot IKEA layouts modeled to represent ideal kitchens and laundry rooms. Customers can enter the spaces to visualize how Best Buy and IKEA products can be integrated into their homes and lifestyles. IKEA co-workers will also be in the planning centers to assist customers when designing and purchasing appliances, electronics, and furnishings.

According to the press release, this is the first time IKEA products and services will be accessible through another U.S. retailer, offering a new way for these retailers to meet customer needs in a rapidly changing environment. 

“By bringing together our home furnishing expertise, products, and services with Best Buy’s leadership in appliances and technology, we’re creating a one-stop destination where customers can design their dream kitchen, storage solutions, or laundry space with ease," Olson said. "It’s a great step on our journey to helping people create beautiful, functional homes at a price they can afford." 

Participating Best Buy Locations

The Best Buy locations that will feature the IKEA planning space include:

• Daytona Beach, FL
• Lakeland, FL
• Melbourne, FL
• Waterford Lakes, FL
• Alamo Ranch, TX
• Hulen, TX
• Humble, TX
• Mesquite, TX
• South Austin, TX

IKEA Family rewards can still be earned at these pilot locations, just as they can from shopping at a local IKEA or online—you even get 50 bonus points when booking a planning appointment. The Lakeland and Alamo Ranch locations will serve as free pickup points for IKEA shoppers for most products ordered in-store or online.
