Fromsoftware is not only the creator of soulslikes, it's the unvanquishable king of them too. But outside of its unbelievable catalog, there are a few challengers that get close enough to wobble its crown. Lies of P is one. Remnant 2's gun-infused spin is another. Then there's Lords of the Fallen, which delivers one of the coolest videogame mechanics of recent times with its seamless switching between its grim fantasy overworld and deathly, dark Umbral realm. Just a few months on from dropping a game-changing update, and less than two years after launching, developer Hexworks reveals that it's slashing Lords of the Fallen's price in half. Not as part of a promotion. Not for a limited-time sale. For good.

In the pantheon of the best soulslikes, Fromsoft's masterpieces still reign supreme. It's going to take something truly unexpected and sensational to outdo the likes of Dark Souls and Elden Ring. But Lords of the Fallen is absolutely in the chasing pack. Already well-received and benefiting from plenty of post-launch updates, earlier this year Hexworks dropped a patch so big it dubbed it 'Lords of the Fallen 2.0.'

This update totally revamped and improved the game's combat, audio, and traversal, while allowing those playing co-operatively to share progress across each others' saves.

It also introduced a free friend pass, meaning you can invite a friend to the world of Axiom without them needing to own a copy of the game. Going halves with a buddy on just one $60 copy sounds great, but that deal is about to get even better - permanently.

Hexworks and publisher CI Games have revealed that Lords of the Fallen's retail price has dropped to $29.99 / £24.99, and it'll stay that way forever. Sure, it's been even cheaper than this for brief spells during sales (it fell just below $20 on a couple of occasions on Steam) but this is a permanent reduction, meaning future sales should see it plummet even lower.

With a new game in the Lords of the Fallen universe in production, and targeting a 2026 release, per CI Games investor reports, now seems like the ideal time to make the 2023 game much cheaper to entice people into this world. If you're like me, you'll be majorly impressed by its dual-world system that hides a dark realm beneath the real world, its boss design, and its impressive environments. As mentioned, it's not an Elden Ring-tier soulslike, but it's no imposter either.
