Assassin's Creed Black Flag actor Matt Ryan claims that a passing comment about a potential AC4 remake has led to a threat of legal action. A recorded video of Ryan, who plays protagonist Edward Kenway, at a fan signing event made the rounds in June after he gave a sly hint at a potential return for the beloved pirate game. "You might have to beat it again," he says in the original video, giving a knowing look, before saying, "There's a reason I say that, but I can't say anything."
Asked by eager Assassin's Creed Black Flag fans for further comment in a video shared by 'TheHiddenOneAC' on X, Ryan gently shrugs and says "Don't know." When pressed, he claims, "Well, the thing is, when that happened someone was doing this." He points to the mobile phone recording him, gesturing as if it was being held low down. "And I was being very free and open, but I didn't know that they were recording me on their phone, and then the company threatened to sue me. So I'll say nothing."
The return of one of the best pirate games ever made would certainly be big news, and Ryan's off-hand comment isn't the only suggestion we've had that it might be sailing into port soon. A dataminer recently suggested that a fresh store listing on the Playstation Network backend could mean a new Assassin's Creed game is set to appear soon, and a remake would be a likely candidate that could move from announcement to sale in relatively short time.
Ryan doesn't specify the exact source of the warning he claims to have received. We have reached out to Assassin's Creed Black Flag developer and publisher Ubisoft for comment on this latest story, and will update here with any response.
