Inspired by the classic board game, dark fantasy RPG Frosthaven is out now

I do love a good board game night, and I've often found that great board games make for great videogames - especially the fantasy ones. Dungeons and Dragons is usually the first to jump to mind, but you shouldn't discount Ticket to Ride, Warhammer Quest, and of course Gloomhaven. Now, hoping to be counted amongst the greats is dark fantasy RPG Frosthaven, packed with slick turn-based combat and a diverse world calling out to be explored. Even better, the game is available to play right now.

Following in the footsteps of its spiritual predecessor Gloomhaven, the tabletop-inspired adventure has officially entered early access on Steam. Aiming to take on some of the best turn-based RPGs available, Frosthaven welcomes players to a dark, menacing fantasy world.

Roughly one-third of the planned content for 1.0 will be available as part of the early access launch, including eight unique characters, over 35 tactical quests from across Act 1 and Act 2, more than 100 choice-driven events, and so much more.

Adventurers beware, a treacherous world awaits where every decision you make will impact the path that lies before ahead. You'll need to build an outpost in the unforgiving and treacherous northern frontier, manage resources, and form a party that can best fearsome foes and emerge triumphant.

But you won't have to face the dangers alone. You'll be able to tackle myriad threats solo, or squad up with three other players in online co-op. Whether you're a board game regular, or new to world of Frosthaven, there is plenty to dive into, including a range of tailored difficulty modes for newcomers.

Those who love the artstyle of the board game will be able to experience the stunningly animated environments; expect diverse biomes, changing seasons, and dynamic landscapes as you venture through this action-packed adventure.

A lucky few will be able to try Frosthaven for free with an exclusive demo from today - there's just one catch. The demo is only available to play at tabletop convention, Gen Con 2025, and attendees will only have until Sunday August 3 to play the demo at the Indiana Convention Center.
