Music being outlawed is one of the few things that might drive me to a life of crime, so I can empathize with the protagonists of cyberpunk JRPG Keylocker. Blending Guitar Hero rhythm action with Chrono Trigger inspired turn-based battles, this slick, moody tale of an underground rebel could be just what you're looking for after the stylish attacks and parries of Clair Obscur Expedition 33. Keylocker puts you in the boots of singer, songwriter, and rhythm rebel B0B0, trapped in a world where music has been outlawed due to its potential to generate electricity. The beating heart of corporate corruption that runs under Keylocker's neon-drenched streets puts it well in line with the themes of our best cyberpunk games. As with all the best JRPGs, however, it's time to throw off the shackles of oppression and rise up.

Your journey starts out with a choice of four main classes, each bringing a different approach to the action. The Samurai uses defensive skills such as counterattacks and parries, while the Sequencer takes a more high-tech approach to this strategy. Conversely, the Hacker takes the offensive with its ability to manipulate technology, and the Juggernaut simply overwhelms foes with raw strength and heavy weapons.

Combat takes place on a grid, meaning you'll need to take your positioning into careful account, similar to what you'd see in games like Into the Breach. Rather than random encounters, all battles are seamlessly integrated into the overworld, and many attacks play into the musical themes with the use of timing elements that will likely tickle those same parts of your brain as Expedition 33 did earlier in the year.

As your party grows, you'll be able to fully customize and equip your team with a whole host of gear, upgrade their talents using the titular Keys, and choose whether to befriend or betray other local citizens and NPCs to influence their stories and your own. Be careful, however; raise too much havoc and you'll be sure to draw attention from the wrong crowd.

As if that wasn't enough, developer Moonana recently launched its Heart Strings update, which includes additional weapons, new romanceable NPCs, the ability to play a concert at any time, randomized black-hole battles, and a whole host of bug fixes and improvements.
