Jamie Hore's Avatar

While we've already been treated to the likes of Blue Prince, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, and Split Fiction, Clair Obscur Expedition 33 seems like the frontrunner for GOTY at all of the end-of-year award ceremonies. I'm not sure if it'll dominate in quite the same fashion as, say, Baldur's Gate 3 did, but something tells me Sandfall Interactive is going to be heading to Ikea for a few glass cabinets pretty soon… To celebrate the surprising success of the RPG and the huge community it's spawned, Sandfall has released an album featuring bonus music that didn't appear in the main game - and it's giving it away for free as a Steam DLC, as well as putting it on streaming sites.

While there are so many elements that Expedition 33 nails, its soundtrack is one of its greatest strengths. It's enormous in size and full of rousing, atmospheric compositions. But in this new "Bonus Edition" collection, there's more of a focus on music that you didn't hear during your quest to defeat the Paintress. There are also some alternate versions of iconic tracks. If you're thinking of replaying what is surely one of the best turn-based RPGs of all time with a slightly different atmosphere, or simply want a stunning soundtrack blaring through your headphones while you knuckle down at work, this album is for you.

It's spearheaded by the "fully remixed and remastered" 33-minute cut of Nos vies en Lumière, the name of which is used as the title of the album. You'll also find an instrumental version of World Map - Taking Down the Paintress, a piano-only rendition of Sciel's theme, and several tracks that were used for pre-launch trailers. In total, you've got just over an hour and a half of gorgeous music here.

Sandfall describes the album as "a special thank you to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 fans," and as such is giving it away as a free Steam DLC. You can also listen to it on Spotify, Apple Music, and Soundcloud, subscriptions permitting. Just search for 'Nos vies en Lumière Bonus Edition.'

While I know many of you are itching for something fresh in-game, there is some hope. Last month, Sandfall said it was exploring how it could potentially add "new content" to Expedition 33. I appreciate it's not the most detailed or committal quote in the world, but hey, it's something to cling onto if you're desperate for more Expedition 33. In the meantime, get your headphones on, fire up Nos vies en Lumière, and turn it up loud.
