Elden Ring Nightreign two-player mode confirmed, and it's coming very soon

While there's an element of risk with any online multiplayer game, Elden Ring Nightreign always felt like it had the perfect recipe for success. The clout of being tied to one of the greatest games ever made. A roguelike and battle royale-tinged gameplay loop. A 'greatest hits' of bosses from Elden Ring and the Dark Souls trilogy. With Bandai Namco recently revealing it's shifted five million units, it's certainly made good use of all that potential. However, there have been some downsides, one of which is the lack of a two-player mode - currently, you can either play solo or as a trio. Well, Bandai and FromSoftware have heard your calls - an Elden Ring Nightreign two-player mode has been revealed, and it's arriving in just a few days' time.

Despite its incredible gameplay, there are a few more hoops Elden Ring Nightreign needs to jump through before securing a spot on our best co-op games list. Full crossplay between PC and consoles is one, but the other is the addition of a duos mode. Well, the latter can now be ticked off the list. In a new trailer, FromSoft reveals Duo Expeditions, which will let two players take on Nightreign's gauntlet.

Not much has been said on whether there will be any gameplay differences or retuning for Duo Expeditions, but what has been announced is when it'll come to the game. The good news is that it's just around the corner.

Elden Ring Nightreign Duo Expeditions will arrive on Wednesday, July 30 as part of update 1.02. The update is free for all players.

FromSoft has also teased that some big UI improvements are coming with 1.02, including "more Relics filtering options." You can take an early glimpse of how that'll look below.

The addition of a two-player mode is a massive boon, but that crossplay barrier still remains. While Nightreign's huge popularity means that finding teammates through random matchmaking won't be a struggle anytime soon, not letting those on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation party up together is a blocker for many friend groups. Hopefully, that will be the next big addition for Nightreign, but it's a far more complex issue than adding a duo experience.
