Brooke Shields Reveals How She Keeps Her Household Running Smoothly—Pets Included

Between children playing, a pup lounging, and running to work commitments, there's rarely a dull moment in Brooke Shields' home. But the entrepreneur, actor, and best-selling author always keeps one thing in mind: a space doesn't need complete silence to be peaceful and comfortable.

"There has to be laughter," Shields says. "You can come in, and once you're in the house, you are a member of this household. I want people to be relaxed. I want them to be respectful."

An essential part of maintaining a joyful and welcoming home is keeping it clean—or as clean as you can with energetic kids and furry friends. She also says that loading and running the dishwasher, vacuuming, and mopping are always on the to-do list. "The Swiffer is a big deal in this world," Shields says.

Pet Health and Comfort Matters, Too

Shields doesn't keep her space clean just so her family and guests are comfortable; she does it so that her pets are, too.

When Shields' beloved dog, Pepper, became ill, she wondered what she could have done differently—used certain products or noticed sure signs—to save her.
