Killing Floor 3 has burst onto Steam today after suffering a tricky few months and the ire of disappointed playtesters, but Tripwire Interactive is already looking ahead at what's to come post-launch in its substantial content roadmap.

It's been a long and bumpy road to launch for Killing Floor 3. Originally expected to be one of the best zombie games of the year, hopes fell a little flat following its disappointing beta test earlier this year, with complaints about its UI and failure to stack up against the cult classic Killing Floor 2.

As a result, Tripwire Interactive decided to delay the game's launch back in March to address the biggest issues. Now, after its most recent stress test, Killing Floor 3 has finally arrived on Steam to (so far) mostly positive user reviews and over 28k concurrent players at the time of writing - a number that is sure to grow in the hours to come.

Beyond fixes for issues raised in the earlier beta tests, Killing Floor 3's content roadmap includes new maps, enemies, challenges, plus a new perk and specialist. We're also getting more weapons and mods in the upcoming rearmament update, including the M14 EBR Mod 0 and MKR-350 assault rifle, each with four extra mods, as well as the Streik shotgun with three new mods.

In the short term, the dev says it'll continue to deploy hotfixes to flagged issues, with a specific focus on performance. Writing on Steam, Tripwire Interactive says, "Currently the game is fairly CPU bound and that will be many systems performance bottleneck." It adds, "The team has been working to optimize various systems as well as figuring out the cause of performance spikes and hammering them down."

There's currently no confirmed date for these changes and updates, although the rearmament update and season two are expected sometime this year, with seasons three and four set to land in 2026.
