It feels like a new roguelike is popping up every day at this point, not that I'm complaining. Whether I'm blasting through Chronos' Underworld legion in Hades 2, or making another attempt to reach Room 46 in Blue Prince, the popular genre is a veritable trove of creativity. It also encompasses some of the best shooters out there, like Returnal and the Risk of Rain series. Now, Manticore Games is throwing its hat into the ring with the timeline-warping Out of Time, and it's got some serious potential.

Out of Time is a chaotic, wave-based multiplayer shooter that sees you and your pals taking on all manner of monsters and mechs, some in large, raid-style encounters that have been pulled from the best MMO games. After the fabric of space-time tears, everything gets real wild, real quick. Infinitopia is the last bastion of safety, its anachronistic denizens including medieval knights, futuristic cyborgs, and… is that Albert Einstein?

Out in the field, your crack team of survivors will need to utilize its vast arsenal of historical weapons to take down everything from fire-breathing dragons to killer robots, from mutant crabs to skeletal shivsters. At launch, Out of Time promises over 190 million gear combinations to choose from. Note to editor: I will not be writing that tier list, *Skull emoji.*

This melting pot of tried-and-tested genre staples results in an "explosive cocktail of epic combat, infinite replayability, and deep social features," Manticore chief creative officer Jordan Maynard says. Considering the studio's work on Core, an Unreal-based metaverse arcade redolent of Fortnite, I'm not surprised the studio's going as broad as possible in every facet. Already, plans are in the pipeline for more era-based maps, PvP, and support on additional platforms.

If this looks like a bit of you, Out of Time is launching on PC this Fall for $24.99. You can pre-purchase the game on the Epic Game Store, which will net you a selection of cosmetics.
