New soulslike Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is only one of the games you might score through the Fanatical Mystery Box Bundle. The idea is simple: pay $1 / £1 for a single chance, or boost your odds by bulk-buying mystery box keys. Alongside triple-A titles and popular indie gems, Fanatical is also giving away Steam Decks, VR headsets, and store credit. Someone has to win the big prizes; that person could be you.
The fact that you could get the newly released Wuchang: Fallen Feathers with this deal is certainly a big draw. Developer Leenzee delivers a brutal RPG steeped in dark fantasy, weaving a richly layered narrative drawn from Chinese folklore and Ming Dynasty history. In our Wuchang: Fallen Feathers review, Nat sings its praises, saying that it "exceeds all expectations as this year's GOTY-level soulslike."
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers features your familiar soulslike game mechanics like stamina-based combat and slick dodging. However, it's not the kind of "throw your controller at the wall" difficulty spike you might expect. Nat notes that "reaction-based moves, such as dodges and counters, all have an exceptionally generous window, giving the overall impression that Leenzee is less inclined to reward players for the speed at which they press a button, but for how well they respond to situations." This sets Wuchang apart from tougher titles like Sekiro, which demand rhythm-perfect parrying and frame-tight reactions; a nice change of pace that'll appeal to a wide audience, even if Fromsoftware's classic might be the best PC game of its type.
Leenzee also introduces a unique Madness system. With each death, Wuchang's Madness rises, eventually reaching a stage where she deals increased damage at the cost of reduced defenses. This high-risk, high-reward mechanic softens the sting of repeated deaths by offering power in return. However, if Madness maxes out and you die, an Inner Demon spawns - a version of yourself wielding your gear and guarding your lost resources, which you must slay to reclaim your goodies.
There are just 50 Wuchang: Fallen Feather keys in this bundle, but it's just one of many titles you could receive. In fact, there are over 500 games in the Mystery Box bundle, as well as multiple chances to win Steam Decks and VR headsets. Will you be lucky enough to get one of the big names below?
- Doom: The Dark Ages
- Clair Obsure: Expedition 33
- Stellar Blade: Complete Edition
- Elden Ring: Nightreign
- Rematch
- Monster Hunter Wilds
- Starfield
- Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX
- You Suck At Parking Complete Edition
Starting at one chance for $1/£1, it's worth a gamble. Perhaps you'll get something you didn't know you needed in your life. The more you buy, the more you save. Remember, there's no guarantee you'll score the big titles in the bundle, but I've found myself enjoying some great indie games at discount prices, and it's allowed me to try new experiences I'd likely never buy outright.
