The Returnal system requirements are slightly more challenging than similar PS5 ports, at least on the low end, but that doesn't mean you're going to need an overpowered gaming PC just to get the game running.
While the roguelike game can be a stressful experience to play, you probably needn't worry about having the hardware necessary to run it. Returnal is brutal, but it doesn't demand one of the best graphics card picks from our comprehensive buying guide.
Here are the Returnal system requirements:
Minimum | Recommended | |
OS | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 10 64-bit |
CPU | Intel Core i5 6400 AMD Ryzen 5 1500X |
Intel Core i7 8700 AMD Ryzen 7 2700X |
RAM | 16GB | 16GB |
GPU | Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 AMD Radeon RX 580 |
Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT |
Storage | 60GB | 60GB SSD |
The Returnal minimum specs include the ever-popular Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060, with the AMD Radeon RX 580 filling in for Team Red. On the surface, you don't need the best graphics card in order to play the former PS5 exclusive, but these GPUs are only good for 60fps gameplay at 720p using the 'Low' preset, according to the developers' testing.
Your system better have 16GB of RAM in it, regardless of whether you're targetting the Returnal recommended specs or not. Developers Housemarque and Climax Studios also suggest that you use a gaming CPU with at least six cores in combination with a more powerful GPU to play the game at 1080p at 60 frames per second, using 'High' settings.
With a 60GB footprint, the Returnal size isn't abnormally large. That said, it's strongly recommended that you install the game on one of the best SSD picks from our buying guide.
