There's something about fans turning PC classics into new and unique projects. Some great games have spawned from mods over the years - think Dear Esther and The Stanley Parable from Half Life 2, DayZ from ARMA 2, The Forgotten City from Skyrim - and then you've got the likes of Fallout London and Thief The Black Parade. Now, there's a fresh mod on the scene with similar levels of ambition. In its first update in nearly three years, a new trailer has dropped for Fallout: Bakersfield, the GZDoom Engine mod that reimagines the original Fallout as an FPS.

This one was first teased all the way back in September 2022 in a YouTube video posted around the time of Fallout's 25 anniversary. The reveal reimagined the ghoul city of Necropolis as a fast-paced FPS campaign within GZDoom. And now we have the project's first major update since then, as developer Alexander 'Red888Guns' Berezin drops a four-minute trailer where we get to see more of the Necropolis, its enemies, and some weapons.

The reaction to the project and gameplay has been overwhelminly positive so far, with excited fans already hyped about the new reveal. One writes on YouTube "This might be the sickest fallout project I've ever seen," while another adds "Now THIS is some proper Fallout."

But if you're itching to delve guns blazing into the Necropolis, you might be in for a bit of a wait, as the project is only "60%" finished so far with a lot more work required.

Fallout: Bakersfield reimagines Fallout as a FPS campaign and shows the player character shooting flames at enemies

That said, a release date momentarily glitches in and out at the end of the trailer. To us, it looks a lot like 2027. Let's hope we don't have to wait years for the next trailer, though.

Will previously wrote about how excited he is for the project. Fallout: Bakersfield comes from a dev team that includes Alexander Berezin, who is currently working with New Blood CEO Dave Oshry on an isometric CRPG inspired by the original Fallout games.
