Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot appears to have confirmed that a new Ghost Recon game is on the way, more than five years since the last entry in the series. Guillemot made the comment during a recent shareholder meeting for the Far Cry and Assassin's Creed maker, indicating the studio could have been working on it for some time. It also sounds like this new Ghost Recon will have both live service and first-person elements, judging by what else was said.

While we don't have a launch date for this new Ghost Recon just yet, Guillemot did let slip that Ubisoft is indeed still working on one of the best open-world game series. Answering a question at the meeting about Ubisoft's live-service games, Guillemot first mentioned Rainbow Six Siege X, before talking about where the company wants to go within the market in the future.

"In addition to the flagship game that I just mentioned, our objective is to also make strong progress in the growing market, generally speaking, by continuing to enhance our current experiences that we offer - and capitalizing on upcoming launches, such as The Division and Ghost Recon," Guillemot explained (via GameSpot, first spotted by GameFile).

That's not all, though. Ubisoft CFO Frederick Duguet also called this Ghost Recon one of the many "first-person-shooter-type games" at the company. This could indicate that the series may soon become an FPS game, but it may just be a reflection of how Duguet sees the series. That's because the Ghost Recon games are predominantly played from a third-person perspective, but you can alternate your aiming mode and enter a first-person viewpoint for a clearer shot.

PCGamesN has reached out to Ubisoft for confirmation about a new entry in the Ghost Recon series, and whether or not it'll be purely first person. We will update this story if or when we receive a response.

Whatever Ubisoft has planned for the series, it'll be a long time coming. The last entry was Ghost Recon Breakpoint, which came out all the way back in 2019. It was critically maligned at the time, and we even gave it a 5/10 score in our Ghost Recon Breakpoint review. Gina called it "an underwhelming solo experience despite offering a world loaded with potential," adding that even if "co-op play dilutes the boredom that sets in during repetitive missions, the game never quite finds itself."

While you wait for more on the next Ghost Recon, make sure you check out all the best co-op games and war games you can play on PC today.
