Mojang has just made a pretty big change to the Bedrock Edition of Minecraft, even if it might not look that way at first glance. You can now earn achievements with add-ons installed, which means you're free greatly customize your experience and still reach all the relevant landmarks. So if you're yet to get the rewards for progressing through the game because you just love add-ons so much, now you can.

Now that add-ons are working with achievements, there are a few extra details you need to know. There's currently no limit to the number of Minecraft add-ons you can install while still earning achievements, which means you can go absolutely hog wild with your games. Mojang does recommend that you're careful about how many add-ons you stack, however, especially on lower-performing devices.

The team also makes it clear that the add-on and achievement compatibility works on all platforms, so it doesn't matter where you play one of the best sandbox games ever made. That said, you can't retroactively earn achievements in worlds you've had add-ons installed on already, which means you'll need to unlock them going forward instead. This also only works for add-ons from the Minecraft Marketplace, not with any old external mod.

If you're out of the loop, add-ons were introduced as a new category in the Minecraft Marketplace last year. They function similarly to Java Minecraft mods, and help you add new mechanics and features to the game. They can take the form of mobs, items, gameplay systems, and just about anything you can think of. Mojang makes add-ons in close collaboration with Java modders, too, and says it'll have more on the way soon.

At the end of the post detailing the add-on and achievement functionality, Mojang also addresses the idea that this will make it easier than ever to unlock the toughest challenges in the game. "Yes, some add-ons may indirectly make it easier to earn achievements. For example, any enhanced weapons, gear, or food will likely make it easier to defeat the Ender Dragon. However, we believe that the majority of players just want to play the game, and many see earning achievements as an important part of the experience.

"We don't want them to miss out on the fun of earning achievements just because they are using an add-on. To prevent add-ons from posing an unfair advantage, we have put new policies in place for creators to prohibit add-ons that are specifically designed to earn difficult achievements or as many achievements as possible."

Don't forget to also check out all the best Minecraft skins and Minecraft seeds in the game right now.
