Iggy Pop Reacts to His Surprise Moment in New 'Superman' Movie

Iggy Pop’s reaction to hearing his punk anthem wrap up Superman is everything you’d hope for — honest, a little weird and totally on brand.

James Gunn’s Superman reboot delivers action, heart, and a message of hope, but it’s the final scene and end credits that left moviegoers stunned.

Why? Because punk-rock royalty Iggy Pop soundtracks the emotional finale with his gritty, soul-stirring version of “Punkrocker.”

The 78-year-old legend is as surprised as anyone to find himself closing out a superhero blockbuster.

“I always thought the track had soul,” he told The Hollywood Reporter from Europe, where he’s currently on tour. “Superman is the best friend you could have.”

Gunn — famous for curating killer soundtracks (Guardians of the Galaxy, The Suicide Squad) — hand-picked Iggy’s version of “Punkrocker,” originally by Swedish group Teddybears, to score the film’s most poignant moment.

Superman Sent Streams Soaring

Thanks to the film, “Punkrocker” went from a niche favorite to a viral hit.

Streams jumped from just over 1,500 on July 4 to nearly 190,500 by July 12 — the day after Superman hit theaters.

Fans Are All in on the Punk Rock Heart

The YouTube comments on the “Punkrocker” video say it all.

“Just leaving the theater with tears in my eyes. James Gunn truly understands what Superman is about and what he stands for,” one person wrote.

“The idea of making kindness and hope punk was such a clever and brilliant move. Being kind is punk rock!” another added.

Iggy’s Lyrics Got a Rebellious Makeover

Iggy didn’t just lend his voice — he rewrote key lyrics. Instead of Teddybears’ line, “I’m just not looking good,” Iggy sings: “I’m bored with looking good."

And then he goes deeper: “See me die on Bleecker Street / I’m bored with being God.”

Another Win for Gunn — and Punk Rock

Superman opened with a massive $122 million at the box office, and Iggy Pop’s contribution clearly struck a chord.

With fans praising the film’s emotional core and killer soundtrack, “Punkrocker” is having a moment — and Iggy’s enjoying every second of it.
