New Elden Ring Nightreign mod dials up the randomization to the maximum

My biggest problem with Elden Ring Nightreign stems from its map. Even though the layout changes with each run, there isn't enough randomization to keep me coming back. Limveld doesn't feel like the home of a true roguelike, despite the eight different Nightlords and sheer volume of gear on offer. Luckily for me, then, this new Nightreign mod shakes up the soulslike's various maps, diversifying the game's core elements and creating an entirely new challenge.

Developed by 'thefifthmatt,' the Elden Ring Nightreign Randomizer and Derandomizer does exactly what it says on the tin. By modifying the files loaded when the game starts, it creates wildly unique layout combinations that breathe new life into the Limveld map. This means the Night Bosses are more varied depending on the Nightlord you set out to defeat. As far as Elden Ring Nightreign mods go, this is already one of the most essential, and hopefully, can make it into one of the best soulslike games.

This isn't the end of the mod, either, as thefifthmatt explains how it can be taken further. "In the future, this can be extended to randomizing enemies and bosses within maps and in-depth placement customization."

When you start the Nightreign randomizer, you'll be met with three optional presets (thanks, RPS). The first is similar to the base game, as it emulates how it works while giving you any Night Boss for any Nightlord you choose. Then there's balanced random, which changes the item reward types you get from enemy camps, alongside the circle timing and size. Lastly, there's extra random, which makes your runs even more interesting. Some of the placement restrictions, which are essential to keeping Nightreign balanced, are completely gone, making the whole experience tougher.

If none of those options sound good for you, though, thefifthmatt says you have even more choices. "In addition to these presets, you can also select any custom combination of these options or other options like greatly increasing the frequency of double Night Bosses."

While the point of the mod is to randomize the Elden Ring Nightreign map even further, you can actually take it in the other direction. The derandomizer feature lets you set the game's seed directly, which determines both the map pattern and other elements that are predetermined in advance.
