Samsung provides Galaxy Glasses update

Samsung's smart glasses still haven't made their long-awaited debut, but the company just gave us a few more crumbs of info about them.

Per The Korea Times, Samsung executive Choi Jae-in offered some mildly illuminating remarks about the upcoming "Galaxy Glasses" during a press conference after Galaxy Unpacked earlier this month. Namely, he said Samsung's status as a maker of smartphones and other smart devices could give its glasses a leg up over competitors like Meta, which doesn't produce other compatible hardware.

“Running artificial intelligence (AI) effectively requires significant computing power, but packing all the necessary chips into a pair of glasses makes it difficult to deliver a lightweight and comfortable experience that smart glasses should provide," Choi said, per The Korea Times. "As the first major smartphone brand to enter the smart glasses market, we have a lot of things to offer (to the market).”

In other words, the fact that Samsung's glasses will interface directly with a Samsung phone could, in theory, make them more capable than Meta's.

The other point Choi made that's worth mentioning here concerns the price of the glasses that firms like Warby Parker and Gentle Monster are designing. According to Choi, you can expect a "reasonable" price point, but one that will still "initially be positioned in the premium range." Meta's glasses start at $299, so maybe set your expectations around there.

Samsung's glasses are reportedly coming this fall. We'll have plenty of coverage when that happens.
