This Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics card just melted into a chocolatey mess

Cutting corners on parts for your gaming PC, whether it's during your initial build or on a quick repair job, is always a recipe for bad news. This gamer found out the hard way, with this Nvidia graphics card well and truly destroyed following a PC blowout, melting the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti graphics card's backplate in the process.

As our best graphics card guide shows, Nvidia continues to be the dominant power when it comes to the GPU market, but that doesn't mean it hasn't had some bad press of late, with melting RTX power cables becoming a PR problem. While that doesn't look to be the problem here, the end result is the same: a gamer with a very wrecked PC.

News of this catastrophic failure was shared on Korean site Quasarzone, and reported by Wccftech. According to the user, their PC suddenly shut down while using Adobe software, with the PC emitting smoke. Taking their PC apart, they found that the PCIe slot on their motherboard was damaged, while the graphics card itself had partially melted.

The Quasarzone user reports two possible issues behind the failure. The motherboard had already been replaced following an earlier issue, with a rushed repair leading to a refurbished replacement in its place. The PC also used a power supply that, according to the user, suffers from a bad reputation online.

With damage this severe, it may not be possible to determine which part failed first. The Quasarzone user has passed on their PC to a repair shop, who will hopefully be able to determine the root cause, and we'll be crossing our fingers that they're able to identify it.
