Chaotic co-op shooter Mycopunk blasts onto Steam in all its fungal glory

Watch out Helldivers 2 and Risk of Rain, there's a new fast and furious co-op shooter on the scene, and it's looking fungi-tastic. Mycopunk is now available in early access on Steam, and it's got all the makings of a great FPS.

Cool looking sci-fi super-weapons? Check. Sick art style? Check. A ragtag bunch of heroes? Check. Weird looking planet being corrupted by a deadly fungus? Check. In Mycopunk, you are the New Atlas Hazard Crew, a clean up crew full of robot rejects tasked with exterminating an out of control fungal catastrophe that's taken hold of the planet.

It's difficult time for online shooters in the wake of XDefiant's demise and the lukewarm reception to Remedy's FBC Firebreak, but this co-op FPS game looks like it might have all the right ingredients. While taking on planet-wide missions and slaughtering bugs and corrupted machinery left, right, and center, you'll need to uncover the mysteries behind the infection. In multiplayer squads, you can gear up and head out to rid the planet of this fungal menace once and for all. Hopefully.

Good news though, there's a whole hoard of futuristic weapons and upgrades for you to break the mold with. Scavenge for resources and collect loot from enemies across the planet to upgrade your arsenal with a grid-based upgrade system; Jamie noted previously that this chaotic co-op FPS has "one of the most novel-looking gunsmith systems" he's seen. You'll be able to create weapons that are out of this world, and dispatch your foes in all manner of weird and wonderful ways.

There's plenty to do between missions as well, like hanging out in the orbital dropship H.U.B, which is stuffed with toys, games, and plenty of secrets waiting to be discovered. Or you can decide to uncover more about the universe if it's the lore that takes your fancy.

The launch comes after over 120,000 players picked up the demo earlier this year, so hopefully there will be plenty of other fungal hunters out there waiting to take on this fungal threat with you.
