Remaining Rooted Through Your Ninth Hour - iBelieve Truth: A Devotional for Women - July 24, 2026

"As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving." — Colossians 2:6-7

There is a profound difference between being lost in a wasteland and being intentionally hidden for preparation. When you find yourself walking through an unexpected season of quietness—even during the most stable and consistent chapters of life—the human heart naturally searches for clarity, direction, or a word of reassurance. We realize that true stability isn't a permanent destination, but a holy training ground where God refines our inner focus for the assignments ahead.

Years ago, I penned my very first devotional titled Refusing to Let Trauma Alter Your Worship. That message was forged in a furnace of deep personal trial and sudden family transition, where I learned that life's crises often try to disrupt our inner peace. That initial decision was my first real step toward truly walking in Him, regardless of the terrain. From then until now, here is where I stand: I am still learning, still growing, and still resolute in my decision not to allow life’s upsets to alter my worship. This consistency is what it means to be built up and established in the faith we were first taught, keeping our stride steady through every transition.

Recently, I navigated a different kind of testing ground: the quiet, reflective pace of a chapter where life's daily demands naturally shift into a quieter rhythm. In those moments, it is easy to misinterpret a temporary pause as a setback. While we are grateful for every meaningful connection in our lives, we must understand that God sometimes gives us a quiet space to help us catch our breath and steady our hearts. Though life doesn't pause, moments of stillness are not signs of failure—they are pieces of divine curation. God is simply ensuring that our primary focus rests on Him, protecting our energy and anchoring our hearts in His sovereign provision. In this quiet place, we are being deeply rooted—growing downward in secret so that we can stand strong in public.

The clarity of this truth emerged beautifully during an invitation to speak at a sister church for a 12-hour prayer service, spanning from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. My designated speaking slot was at 4:00 PM. As I prepared to stand before those women of God, the Holy Spirit revealed a profound chronological and spiritual reality: 4:00 PM is the conclusion of the 9th hour.

In the biblical timeline, the 9th hour (historically 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM) is a highly significant marker on God's timeline. It is the hour of sacrifice, intense intercession, and ultimate breakthrough. It was at the 9th hour that Cornelius had his divine vision that shifted his entire household, and it was at the 9th hour that Jesus cried out on the cross, "It is finished," breaking the back of the enemy's power. Standing at that podium at 4:00 PM, looking out at the saints, I had to evaluate my own 9th hour. I realized that the multi-year pruning process and quiet periods of hidden growth were intentionally designed to strengthen us; they were positioning us to be built up in Him, constructed from the inside out for a divine transition.

When you reach your 9th hour, the difficult valley reaches its appointed expiration date.  Remaining rooted means nurturing your character, keeping your heart pure, and becoming fully aware of the landscape you stand in—realizing that you are not just wild growth, but a tree planted intentionally within it. True spiritual stability belongs to the trees with roots that grow deep enough to survive whatever life brings. True spiritual maturity means being established—standing secure in the foundational truths you have been taught and keeping your balance through every season. We can rest in perfect peace, knowing that God gracefully creates custom avenues of service uniquely tailored to our voice.

This assurance allows our hearts to fully rest, knowing our future is entirely secure in God's hands. When a moment feels quiet, God uses that exact space to anchor us in the fullness of the grace He has freely bestowed upon us. He answers the silent valleys by pouring out tangible blessings—strengthening our families, stabilizing our finances, granting unexpected provisions, and entrusting our hands with fresh assignments. Keeping our eyes fixed entirely on Jesus allows us to walk through every transition with absolute clarity. Simply do your work with a quiet excellence, treat every environment with gentle grace, and watch the Lord turn your quiet years into a total family triumph. As I stood at that literal ninth hour, I realized my own hidden intermissions of testing weren’t a waste—my sacrifice had been accepted. And if God can align the clock to meet me in my stillness, He is ready to do the exact same for you.

Am I resting fully in the unique purpose and timing God has mapped out for my life? Today, I choose to keep my eyes forward with a clear focus, honor what is true, and walk boldly in the full purpose He has prepared.

Let's Pray ...

Heavenly Father,
I thank You that my identity, my purpose, and my growth are securely held in Your hands. Thank You for filling my heart with Your perfect peace and grounding my spirit in absolute grace. Help me to remain rooted, built up, and established in the foundational truths of Your love, always choosing to worship through every season of life. I joyfully entrust my path, my family, and my future to Your care. Thank You for covering our household, expanding our borders, and leading us boldly into our 9th-hour breakthrough.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.

If you've been feeling tired, overwhelmed, depleted, or just quietly wondering where God is in the middle of a very full life — this episode is for you. And honestly? It might be for me too, because I'm recording this in one of those seasons myself.

Today we're doing something a little different. Instead of going deep in a passage, we're talking about what to do when deep feels like too much — when you need less, not more. Specifically, I'm walking you through one of my favorite practices for weary seasons: handwriting scripture.

Not typing it. Not scrolling past it. Actually writing it out, slowly, in your own hand — because something happens in your brain when you do that. The words land differently. They go deeper. And over time, they become part of that personal library of God's voice that the Holy Spirit can pull from when you need it most. That's what Psalm 119:11 means when it says I have hidden your word in my heart — it's scripture moving into your long-term memory, where it lives and stays even when you haven't opened your Bible in weeks.

I'm sharing the five verses I wrote out for myself today — and why each one hit me fresh even though I've known some of them for years. This episode is part of our How to Study the Bible Podcast, a show that brings life back to reading the Bible and helps you understand even the hardest parts of Scripture.
