Why Creation Calms a Quarreling Heart

Get Outside. This isn't just a suggestion; it's a way of life. Studies show that Americans spend 95% of their lives indoors, cut off from the natural world. Can you believe that!? We spend most of our time in our homes, workplaces, and vehicles, leaving only a meager 5% of our lives to be spent outdoors.

James, the half-brother of Jesus, shares wisdom that supports the idea of stepping outside. In James 4:1-2, he writes, "What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don't they come from the evil desires at war within you?" James points out that the conflicts we experience often stem from within ourselves. By getting outside, we can gain perspective and address the internal struggles that lead to external conflicts.

Spending time in nature has profound benefits for our physical, mental, and spiritual health. It can reduce stress, improve mood, and enhance creativity. Renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright once said, "I go to nature every day for inspiration in the day's work." Nature's beauty and majesty remind us of God's creation and can inspire us to live more fully.

Quote from Levi Lusko

The Bible teaches us that our environment can impact our well-being. Psalm 19:1 declares, "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands." When we immerse ourselves in God's creation, we are reminded of His greatness and our place within His vast and beautiful world.

Practically, getting outside can mean taking a walk in the park, hiking a trail, or simply sitting in your backyard. These moments of connection with nature can help us reflect on our lives and align our thoughts with God's will. In doing so, we can find peace and clarity, allowing us to address the deeper issues within ourselves.

James also advises us to "humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up" (James 4:10). Humility allows us to see our need for God and recognize that our strength comes from Him. By stepping outside and humbling ourselves, we can experience God's grace and find the strength to overcome our struggles.

Let’s make a conscious effort to get outside more often. Embrace the beauty of God's creation, allow it to refresh your soul, and let it be a reminder of His greatness and love. As we spend time outdoors, may we draw closer to God, gain perspective, and find the strength to address the issues within us. Remember, getting outside is not just a physical act but a spiritual one that can bring us closer to our Creator and His purpose for our lives.
