Tactical FPS Delta Force expands with a new season and deadly operator

Delta Force Season Break is live, bringing with it an avalanche of reasons to jump into the free-to-play FPS. Team Jade's shooter has been going from strength to strength on Steam recently, consistently hitting over 150,000 concurrents every single day. It blends the large-scale gunfights of Battlefield with the extraction mechanics of Escape From Tarkov, creating something totally unique. With Season Break, though, you've got a new operator, extra maps, more weapons, and even the ability to swim.

First up in Season Break is the new Delta Force Operator Tempest, who comes in the free tier of the season pass. In the game, each operator falls into the traditional Battlefield-style roles of Assault, Engineer, Recon, or Support, and has their own special abilities you can use in a firefight. For Tempest, this means she's got abilities that'd put Hideo Kojima to shame. There's the Auxiliary Surge Spine, which activates when bullets or explosions come too close by boosting your sprinting speed. Then you have some emergency evasion technology that'll help you reposition, like a quick combat roll or an anchor point you can use to quickly back away from a fight. She even comes with a drill charge, which smashes through various surfaces and disarms enemies when thrown.

You can then take Tempest into two new maps, with one for each of the game's core modes. First up is Tide Prison, which comes to Delta Force's extraction-focused Operations mode. Like Alcatraz, this prison is located on an island that's brimming with high-level security. You need to disguise yourself as an inmate, infiltrate the building, recover gear, solve puzzles, and then get out with whatever you find. This mode is the highlight of Delta Force and is one of the reasons that it ranks among the best FPS games.

Then there's Cyclone, which is part of the game's Battlefield-inspired Warfare mode. This lush island is located on top of a secret missile site, and you'll navigate it using various scavenged vehicles. There's also a dynamic weather system that introduces rain, wind, and storms that directly influence your visibility and combat options.

Both of these maps also support Delta Force's brand new mobility option: swimming. You can dive underwater and utilize the new level design to get the drop on your enemies. You can also squad up with a friend and cut about the waves on a jet ski, if slowly treading water isn't your style.

If you want some new deadly tools you don't need to worry, because Season Break also comes with more weapons. You can use the Compound Bow for some quieter kills, or pick up the Wire-Guided Missile launcher to stop an enemy vehicle in its tracks. Otherwise, the KC-17 rifle is perfect for picking off an unsuspecting foe.

You can take all of this to fight Delta Force's new boss, Raven, who can be found in Tide Prison. He'll be on the move with guards, though, so you'll want to be extra careful whenever you choose to engage.
