Fancy a new gaming handheld? If you're in the UK, you could treat yourself to a brand new Asus ROG Ally, thanks to this stonking Amazon Prime Day deal which puts it at its lowest ever price. Amazon has dropped the price of this original Asus ROG Ally down to just £399.99, down from as high as £599.99 just two months ago.

You're not getting the base model, either. This Asus handheld comes with AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU, the better of the two original models, and while it may have been superseded in our best handheld guide by the newer ROG Ally X, this OG rival is still a powerful option for Windows gamers who don't want to spend a fortune to take their gaming sessions with them.

This is the original Steam Deck competitor, with performance on this Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip in particular that puts it ahead of Valve's handheld, as our original Asus ROG Ally review explains. That Zen 4 chip has eight cores and 16 threads, while also taking advantage of RDNA 3 Radeon graphics with 12 Compute Units.

The Asus ROG Ally also comes with a 7-inch 120Hz, 1080p-capable display, giving you extra clarity compared to the 800p panel you'll see on the original Steam Deck. The higher native resolution also means that upscaling features like AMD FSR don't look as terrible when in use.

A 512GB SSD leaves a solid amount of storage for a good amount of games, or at least a couple of Call of Duty installations, while the battery life during our initial review showed a solid 2.5 hours, with "Turbo" mode at a full 25W switched on, while using the ROG Ally during non gaming periods allowed for a solid six hours of use before charging.

Newer handhelds might be on the market right now, but this Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme is still a powerful contender worth considering, especially with a sub-£400 price tag. You can pick it up, while the discount lasts, by clicking this Amazon UK link.

Before you jump in, you can also check out our Steam Deck review to see how it matches up to Valve's original handheld. You can also check out our Asus ROG Ally X review to compare this original to its newer, faster successor. Don't forget to check out these other Prime Day deals to see some other big tech discounts that are available right now.
