It's no secret that I love a good musou game, and Dynasty Warriors: Origins quickly became a personal favorite of mine when it launched earlier this year. Then, mere weeks later, publisher Koei Tecmo shadow-dropped a Vampire Survivors-inspired spinoff called Warriors Abyss, which captured my roguelike-loving heart. Thanks to a deep discount and a major update, now's the perfect time to take it for a spin.

While I do love the simplicity of Vampire Survivors, my favorite roguelike games remain Dead Cells for its slick platforming action and Hades for its punchy, tricky fights. Warriors: Abyss scratches a different itch, combining the series' ARPG combat with Vampire Survivors' hordes of enemies.

Almost everything you've come to know and love about Dynasty Warriors is here, just in an altered form. Swapping political warfare for the merciless trials of Hell (a bit of a change in pace, let's be honest), Warriors: Abyss still lets you play as some of the most iconic DW characters, including Lu Bu, Liu Bei, and Cao Cao.

You'll recruit new heroes to your team as you go, with each boasting powerful skills to push back the enemy hordes. After a run, you can head to the Hall of Bonded Souls and unlock new characters or formations to improve your chances.

It's also a great time to give Warriors: Abyss a try, as a new update brings Ninja Gaiden characters into the fray. As someone who's been waiting for Ninja Gaiden 4 for 13 years, this is exactly what I need to tide me over.

If you fancy another round of Dynasty Warriors combat or a new roguelike to sink your teeth into, you can grab Warriors: Abyss for just $17.99 / £14.39 at Fanatical. That's a 28% discount and the lowest price we've seen since launch. However, you only have until 9 AM PT / 12 PM PT / 5 PM BST on Thursday, July 10, 2025, to grab this deal.

It's an enjoyably straightforward roguelike whether you know and love the characters or not. However, I do recommend giving Dynasty Warriors: Origins a try if you haven't - it's easily one of the best PC games I've played this year, and even months later, I'm still refreshing our upcoming PC games list hoping for a sequel announcement to pop up. Check out our full Dynasty Warriors: Origins review if you're not convinced.
