The Division 2 is getting a surprise crossover with fellow co-op shooter series Payday, Ubisoft and Starbreeze have revealed. Having already linked up with several well-known IP both within and outside of Ubisoft's realm, this latest collaboration will bring some of Payday's iconic heist masks to The Division 2.

Despite fans' hunger for The Division 3, Ubisoft isn't giving up on the second game in the series just yet. Now well over six years old, I'd argue that it's starting to fall behind when compared to some of the great shooters on our best co-op games list, but that's not stopping a steady stream of updates and new The Division 2 content. Its long-awaited (and heavily delayed) Battle for Brooklyn DLC dropped at the end of May, and it's seen a modest resurgence since.

As for the Payday series, it finds itself in a peculiar spot. After a rough launch, Starbreeze has been sinking loads of energy into making Payday 3 the game it should've been back in 2023. Countless reworks, loads of new heists and free gameplay updates, changes to content delivery - you name it, the Swedish studio's tried it. However, despite it being a markedly improved game these days, its predecessor is still much more widely played, on Steam at least.

So, we've got two co-op shooter franchises in slightly unusual positions uniting in this crossover. While the full details of the collab haven't been revealed yet (there's just a short teaser for now) it appears to be a set of Payday-themed cosmetics arriving in The Division 2.

This would make it similar to other crossovers the game has experienced over the years, where cosmetic items based on Splinter Cell, Resident Evil, and Stalker 2 entered the game. The difference here is that the focus appears to entirely be on Payday's iconic heist masks. Three are shown in the teaser trailer, but datamines suggest there will be a much wider range.

The Division 2 and Payday crossover is arriving on Tuesday, July 15, according to social media posts from both Ubisoft and Starbreeze.
