Stardew Valley has always had a special place in the hearts of Steam players, from the constant creation of new mods to debates over the best NPC to romance. And while I'm quite happy to while away the hours chatting about the pros and cons of marrying the handsome town doctor, there's no longer any need to debate the popularity of this colorful farming sim: Stardew Valley has toppled classic puzzle game Portal 2 from its number one rank as the highest rated game on Steam.
One of the best life games on Steam today, Stardew Valley nabbed the top spot on Steam250 just last week, overtaking Portal 2 on the list based on gamer reviews with a very slim 0.02 rating margin. As of Tuesday July 8, Stardew has double the amount of reviews that Portal 2 has, and sits at 8.87 score compared to the latter's 8.85 score.
The popular Terraria comes in a very close third, with a score of 8.82 and over one million reviews, an achievement Stardew Valley inches ever closer toward with every passing year. Meanwhile People Playground, Left 4 Dead 2, and Vampire Survivors come in fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.
It is worth noting that the SteamDB's rating list does differ slightly from this one, but Stardew Valley still sits in a number two spot in that list, just 0.06 behind Portal 2 in the number one rank.
It's the latest in a long line of achievements for Stardew Valley. Last year, the game broke its all-time player record on Steam, shattering its previous player peak with almost 150,000 players as its latest update dropped.
Earlier this month, we told how Stardew creator Eric 'ConcernedApe' Barone dropped new info on his next upcoming game, Haunted Chocolatier, stating that the "world of Haunted Chocolatier is larger than Stardew Valley". With no release date in sight for the game, you'll just have to settle for returning to your farm in Stardew Valley for now.
While I'm away to feed Harvey's caffeine habit with copious amounts of coffee, why don't you check out these top Stardew Valley mods, or if you fancy something a bit different, there's a whole host of games like Stardew Valley you can play right now.
