Despite being one of the biggest new releases of the year so far, Monster Hunter Wilds is receiving a battering at the moment. While the content and core systems of the game are mostly well-received, frustrated fans have been voicing their displeasure at the game's performance, especially on PC. Potentially as a result of recent concerns about harassment towards Capcom employees and a tsunami of negative Steam reviews, a lecture on 'making Monster Hunter Wilds run smoothly' has been canceled from an upcoming conference.

Monster Hunter Wilds was widely tipped to join the illustrious group of games on our best RPGs list, and while it nails a lot on the content front, its technical experience leaves a lot to be desired. With fans bombarding the game's Steam page with negative reviews, its recent Title Update 2 patch attempted to bring about some major improvements. However, the update hasn't managed to stem the tide - Monster Hunter Wilds' 30-day rolling Steam user score has plummeted to an alarmingly low, 'overwhelmingly negative' 12%.

Now, a planned lecture from Capcom on the subject of Monster Hunter Wilds' technical performance has been canceled. Set to take place at the CEDEC conference in Japan later this month, it was titled (per a translation from Japanese to English) "Making Monster Hunter Wilds run smoothly! All about performance adjustments." The lecture's description sees Capcom admit Wilds has "walked a thorny path" when it comes to performance, but would see developers talk about "how we settled the battlefield where quality and performance are opposed."

While Capcom hasn't publicly given a reason for its cancellation - which was first reported by Automaton - it's potentially down to two factors. The first is that, given Monster Hunter Wilds' persisting performance issues, Capcom simply lacks validity to talk on this topic.

The second theory is that Capcom may be looking to shield developers from harassment that may arise by talking about this subject - just last week, the company said in a reminder of its guidelines that it had been experiencing intimidation, threats, and harassment through customer support and feedback channels.

It is worth noting, however, that Capcom is still scheduled to host well over a dozen lectures during the three-day CEDEC event that discuss the development of Monster Hunter Wilds. These talks touch on topics like narrative design, animation, and network systems.
