The highlight of Borderlands is its replayability. With multiple Vault Hunters to choose from, thousands of guns, and the option to play solo or with a group, every playthrough is wildly different. I'm not ashamed to admit I played through Borderlands 2 with multiple characters at the same time back in the day, eventually landing on Krieg as my go to. Borderlands 4 looks like it'll have that same flexibility, with plenty of characters, weapons, and ways to play, and you can get ahead right now with an all-new BL4 build planner.

When the Borderlands 4 release date finally rolls around, it's going to be the biggest looter shooter in the series yet. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has already confirmed we'll have "more skills per character than you found in Borderlands 3 and 2 added together," meaning that, if four people all played the same Borderlands 4 Vault Hunter, they'd all be able to adopt completely different playstyles.

Now Diablo 4, Lost Ark, and Path of Exile guide website Maxroll has designed a BL4 build planner, making it incredibly easy to play around with skill possibilities in what could be one of the year's best FPS games. You can use the tool to pick your Borderlands 4 character's active skill and point distribution, giving you a clear idea of how that build will work in-game. It's also ideal if you want to know how many levels you'll need to unlock specific abilities, and the bonuses you can acquire on your way to getting them.

Keep in mind that this is a beta version of the tool, so you can only craft builds for two Vault Hunters at the moment: Vex and Rafa. Maxroll is actively working on planners for the other characters, Amon and Harlowe, alongside support for gear and loadouts. This means you'll have full control over how your builds look before launch, and you can even share your creations with the community.

The more I hear about Borderlands 4, the more I'm certain it's going to be the definitive version of the looter shooter for years to come. Gearbox is making plenty of meaningful changes to how the series works, with the loot and co-op systems being overhauled to function well in any situation. You can even shut Claptrap up, so BL4 might just be my game of the year already.

You can check out Maxroll's Borderlands 4 build planner right here, but just keep in mind that it's in beta and could change significantly before launch.

Don't forget to check out the Borderlands 4 system requirements to make sure your rig is up to the task later this year. We've also made a note of every single Borderlands 4 legendary weapon we've seen so far, which is the perfect primer alongside your builds.
