Koei Tecmo's Warriors Abyss, the 2025 action roguelike based on its long-running musou games, just introduced four famous faces from the Ninja Gaiden series in a free update. Series protagonist Ryu Hayabusa leads the charge, followed by fellow playable characters Ayane, Rachel, and Momoji, helping to grow the stylish newcomer into one of the most robust Koei Tecmo crossover games yet, and you can even grab it at a discount right now.

I'll always advocate for the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors games, which have long held a reputation as pure button-mashers but deserve a spot among our best action games. Dig past the early introduction, and you'll find plenty of depth and challenge there, something replicated with this newest installment. Switching the perspective to a more Hades-style isometric look and adopting the run-based structure of the best roguelikes, Warriors Abyss nevertheless remains a symphony of colors and numbers flying off the screen as you carve your way expertly through hordes of foes and grab upgrades.

With a cast of more than 100 characters, available to play directly or join you as supporting heroes, there's already no shortage of choice here, but the developer isn't settling yet. Having already introduced three protagonists from KT's Atelier series of JRPGs since launch, it's now turned to the Ninja Gaiden games, adding the aforementioned squad of four.

While all four were previously playable in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, you might also know them from the Dead or Alive series, where they have all featured in the past. Now, they've joined the roster of Warriors Abyss. With the action roguelike earning a very positive player reception since its launch in February, that makes this latest edition a great excuse to give it a try, and you can do so cheaply thanks to an ongoing Steam sale.

The Warriors Abyss Master Ninja update is out now, introducing Ryu Hayabusa, Ayane, Rachel, and Momiji from the Ninja Gaiden series. You can get 20% off through Thursday July 10, so expect to pay $19.99 / £15.99. Head here if you're prepared to take down anyone who stands in your way.
